Reduce, Reuse, and Repurpose with Help from Goodwill

These days, ” going green” means so much more than just recycling. In addition to traditional recycling efforts, people are choosing to live an environmentally-sustainable lifestyle by reducing the amount of waste they create, reusing pre-owned goods instead of buying new, and repurposing secondhand items for new or different purposes.

At Ohio Valley Goodwill, we’re committed to the value of environmental stewardship. We work to make the most of the items that are donated to Goodwill by reselling them in our stores and recycling whenever possible. We strive to maximize the value of donations so that the most benefit can be returned to the communities we serve by way of job training, employment services, and education programs for individuals with disabilities and our nation’s veterans.

When you donate your used clothes, accessories, and household goods to Ohio Valley Goodwill instead of throwing them away, you’re doing good for the planet and your community! We collect your donations and resell them in our retail stores, boutiques, or online at shopgoodwill.com, where your neighbors can find quality items at bargain prices. Items sold in Goodwill’s stores, find a new life in a new home, where they’ll be put to good use instead of clogging our area’s landfills. Many items found at Goodwill can be repurposed easily with just a coat of spray paint, including glassware, photo frames, and even furniture.

Your donations go even further at Ohio Valley Goodwill, because the money raised from the sale of donated goods helps fund Goodwill’s life-changing job training and services for people facing barriers to employment. By donating, you’re making a greater difference right here in the Greater Cincinnati community.

But what about items that aren’t sold in Goodwill’s stores? At Ohio Valley Goodwill, we work with local recycling companies to recycle textiles, fibers, and electronics. These materials can then be repurposed into new products and kept out of the waste stream for a longer period of time.

You can also make an environmental impact by shopping for secondhand items at your local Goodwill store. By purchasing gently used clothing, accessories, and household items instead of buying them brand new, you’re helping to extend the life of reusable goods and reduce the amount of waste sent to our local landfills.

Go green with Goodwill! We’re happy to accept donations of clothing, accessories, and household goods any time of the year. For a complete list of items Goodwill can and cannot accept, see our donation guidelines. To find a donation site or retail store near you, click here.
