New Year, New You: Organize Your Home for 2020 and Create Jobs

A new year is upon us, filled with exciting new possibilities. What better time to embrace a ” New Year, New You” attitude and make some changes for the better, including getting your home in order?

The beginning of the year is all about starting fresh, so it’s only fitting that January is National Get Organized Month. If organizing your home is at the top of your New Year’s to-do list, Ohio Valley Goodwill has you covered!

Here’s how Goodwill can help you streamline and organize your home while doing good for your community at the same time:

Declutter first, organize second

Before you can get your home organized, you need to cut down on excess clutter. Consider using the ” one in, one out” rule to make room for any new presents your family received during the holidays. For every new item you bring into your home, donate a gently-used one to Goodwill! At Ohio Valley Goodwill, we accept donations all year round, including:

  • Clothing, shoes, and accessories
  • Furniture, small appliances, and household goods
  • Linens
  • Collectibles and antiques
  • Books
  • Electronics
  • Flat-screen TVs and flat-screen computer monitors
  • Cars, trucks, vans, and motorcycles for our Goodwill Auto Auction

View our donation guidelines for more details on what items we can and cannot accept.

Stay organized for less

Once you’ve decluttered your home, it’s time to get organized! This means designating a specific place for the items in each area of your home, from the kitchen to the living room to the bathroom. Luckily, you don’t need to purchase expensive storage equipment to keep your stuff in order. Ohio Valley Goodwill sells affordably-priced items that can help you stay organized for less! Here are a few ideas:

  • Use small glass jars to store office supplies like paper clips or push pins.
  • Repurpose hat boxes or filing boxes to store paperwork, receipts, or jewelry.
  • Use a kitchen utensil tray to organize bathroom toiletries.
  • Store kids’ toys and stuffed animals in baskets or plastic bins.
