Ohio Valley Goodwill Proud to Host Honk and Wave for ADA Celebration!

Thursday, July 26th marked the 28th anniversary of the landmark passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990.   The  precedent-setting legislation was passed in 1990 by President George Bush and provided the nation’s first comprehensive civil rights law addressing the needs of people with disabilities, prohibiting discrimination in employment, public services, public accommodations and telecommunications.

Goodwill’s ambassadors from its Center for Advocacy, Recreation and Education (CARE) program were out in force to celebrate the 28th anniversary of the ADA with hand-made signs which they proudly displayed in front of the organization’s corporate headquarters on Springfield Pike. Joined by Public Information Officer, Michael Flannery, who served as Celebrity ADA Champion during the Honk and Wave, along with Facebook Live co-host, Alisha Tyler,  the team  broadcast the event live and shared all of the highlights of the celebration. Flannery provided a history of the Americans with Disabilities Act and how it has impacted his life personally and Tyler interviewed CARE program supervisor, Lois Kramer, who  spoke eloquently about participation and inclusion in the larger community.
