#1: Clear the Clutter
One of the easiest ways to steal the joy of holiday gatherings is to stuff your family members into what’s essentially a storage closet. They’ve made the sacrifice of traveling over the winter holidays ““ shouldn’t they have a clean and quiet place to lay their heads? While it will take some preparation, it’s important to clean out the clutter in the space where your guests will stay. That means you’ll want to get started now!
Set aside some time to sort through the room. For those items that can’t be temporarily moved to another space, create a pile to donate to Goodwill. Hosting your guests is the perfect excuse to finally purge some of your unwanted or unneeded items!
Be sure your guests have room in the closet or space in dresser drawers in case they don’t want to live out of their suitcases during their visit.
#2: Refresh & Relax
Don’t leave your guests guessing which towels they’re welcome to use, or where to find the extra toiletries. Create a spa-like basket in their room full of everything they’ll need for a relaxing refresh once they arrive.
You don’t have to spend a lot to create this special touch! Head to your nearest Goodwill thrift store and pick up a good-sized basket, then fill it with fresh towels and washcloths, specialty soaps, and extra toothpaste.

#3: Cozy Comforts
A good night’s rest is often hard to come by when staying away from home. The best way to ensure your guests get the best sleep possible is to add all the things you’d love to find if you were traveling. Have extra blankets at the ready, and provide either a folding luggage stand or chair for easy access to suitcases. You might also want to provide wall hooks, so your guests can easily hang coats or smaller bags.
For a comfortable evening after spending time together, be sure to provide a lamp next to the bed, and consider providing a remote to the TV or books to read. The best part? Most of these items can be thrifted at Goodwill for a fraction of the retail cost!
