Achieving Success in the Workplace: How Goodwill Can Help

We all need opportunities to earn a living and launch our careers. But it takes skills (such as reading, computer literacy and ” soft” interpersonal skills) as well as tools (like job search tools and internet search capabilities) to find employment opportunities in today’s job market. Additionally, having a good resume and cover letter prepared can make a big difference when applying for jobs.

But all too often, many people in our local communities who want and need to work face multiple barriers to employment. These barriers could include mental or physical health challenges, disabilities, homelessness, or lack of supportive services such as assistive devices or accessible transportation. What can be done to overcome these barriers? This is where Goodwill comes in.

Local Goodwill organizations, like Ohio Valley Goodwill, help people overcome barriers to build job skills, find meaningful employment, and grow their careers. We believe that the value of work extends beyond earning a paycheck. Meaningful employment promotes confidence, independence, and community belonging.

Worldwide, 36.5 million people are served by Goodwill Industries International ““  2.1 million in person and 34.4 million via mobile and online services. In 2017 alone, Goodwill organizations helped more than 288,000 people train for careers in a variety of industries and receive the supporting services they needed to find, obtain, and maintain employment in their community.
