20th Anniversary Celebration of the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon and 2018 PigAbilities Event Historic Success!

Team Goodwill at PIgAbilities Start

The 20th Anniversary of the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon was an historic success not only for the more than 43,000 participants during race weekend  but also for the athletes involved in the 2018 Pigabilities event and shoppers at the Expo Goodwill Pop-Up Shop. Team Goodwill showed all of its commitment and enthusiasm this weekend as more than 100 athletes and coaches joined with almost 200 participants for the 2018 PigAbilities event on Saturday, May 5th.   As    the 2018  Title Sponsor for the second year, Goodwill was  delighted to welcome the participation of all of the athletes in this year’s big event. Members of Team Goodwill also served as the honorary color guard to get the PigAbilities event   started. Goodwill Marketing Manager, Sharon Hannon, joined with Flying Pig Marathon Race Director, Iris Simpson Bush, to kick off the 2018 PigAbilities event.  PigAbilities is an event held during the Marathon which is designed to be welcoming to athletes of all abilities. “As the 2018 Title Sponsor, Ohio Valley Goodwill couldn’t be more excited to welcome everyone to this year’s very special celebration,” said Sharon Hannon, Marketing manager.

Following the memorable ” Finish Swine” medal ceremony where all PigAbilities participants received their commemorative medals, more than a hundred athletes joined with the Goodwill team to enjoy Busken’s cookies and share stories about this year’s big event. ” Team Goodwill” was transported to the PigAbilities event this year via the organization’s award-winning transportation service and arrived in a convoy of Goodwill vans.

PigAbilities is an empowering option for all ages and abilities and participants commit to going the distance by making healthy choices in their lives. The PigAbilities event takes place when there are fewer crowds, increased accessibility and more parking. On Saturday, May 6th participants gathered for the 1:00pm Start Time and walked, ran, rolled or strolled the final mile on the actual Flying Pig Marathon course. At the Finish Line each finisher received a commemorative PigAbilities medal and high fives. Athletes were also welcomed at the post-event Goodwill celebration tent at  Smale Park  where participants were congratulated and received special goodies to mark their achievement. Team Goodwill team members Jeanna Horsley and Alisha Tyler helped to coordinate the post event celebration tent events along with volunteers from Reading Youth Football and Cheer.
