2009 Advocacy In Media Finalists Announced!

The Advocacy In Media team; a sub-committee of the Community Ambassadors Resource Alliance (CARA); of which Ohio Valley Goodwill is a founding member, is delighted to announce the Finalists for the 2009 Advocacy In Media (AIM) Luncheon. This year the group is recognizing members of the media in both the Print and Electronic categories. The AIM awards were created to recognize the use of ” People First” language by members of the media when writing about people with disabilities. The use of ” People First” language emphasizes the person first rather than their disability.

The 2009 Finalists in the Print Media Category are:

  •  John Johnston, Cincinnati Enquirer
  •  TT Stein Enzi, CityBeat
  • Lauren Bishop, Cincinnati Enquirer
  •  Paul Daugherty, Cincinnati Enquirer
  • Lori Kurtzman, Cincinnati Enquirer
  •  Lindsey Hilty, Cox Ohio

The 2009 Finalists in the Electronic Media Category are:

  • Todd Dykes, WLWT
  •  Tara Pachmayer, Local 12
  • Bob Herzog, Local 12

The 2009 Advocacy In Media Awards Luncheon is being held Thursday, March 19th at Ohio Valley Goodwill’s headquarters in the village of Woodlawn. This year’s event will be hosted by Randi Rico, WLWT Meteorologist. 2009 winners in all categories will be announced at the luncheon. Watch for News Updates following the AIM Luncheon event and You Tube posting of the Awards ceremony.

Congratulations to this year’s Advocacy In Media (AIM) Award finalists! We appreciate your use of People First language in your coverage of stories featuring individuals with disabilities.
