- About Us
For the past 16 years, Ohio Valley Goodwill has been honored to have the support and on-going involvement of Mr. Joe Walter as celebrity spokesman; Golf Outing Chairman; dedicated volunteer and member of the organization’s board of directors. Walter, a retired Cincinnati Bengal from the 1988 Super Bowl Bengals, became involved with Goodwill following his introduction through his involvement with Special Olympics.
Walter often recounts the story of a dynamic Special Olympian that made an indelible impression on him and served as the inspiration for his advocacy efforts on behalf of individuals with developmental disabilities.
As the formal spokesman for the organization’s long-time successful Auto Auction, Walter has been featured in all of the Goodwill television commercials for the past 16 years as well as served as the Celebrity Chairman of the organization’s annual Golf Outing. In addition, Walter has been a member of the Goodwill board of directors for the past 14 years and has been instrumental in providing guidance for the organization’s growth and success over that time.
Most recently, Ohio Valley Goodwill received its fifth consecutive perfect accreditation survey from the international accrediting body, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and in the outcome report noted as strengths were “active, knowledgeable and involved board of directors” and “experienced and visionary leadership and management.”
Joe is also an award winner receiving the 2016 Community Pillar “Non-Profit Board Executive of the Year” recognition from Smart Business Magazine and Medical Mutual as well as the 2005 Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services “Volunteer of the Year” award. Beyond formal awards however, Joe displays his commitment to the organization and its mission in all ways maintaining positive and regular relationships with the staff team as well as the individuals that Goodwill serves.
“Ohio Valley Goodwill is grateful to Mr. Joe Walter for his long-time dedication to the organization and our critical mission of putting people to work in the community,” said Joe Byrum, President and CEO. “We look forward to Joe’s on-going support of Goodwill and especially in his role as Celebrity Chairman of the 100th anniversary version of the Golf Outing this year!” added Byrum.
