6 Things You Probably Didn’t Know You Could Donate to Goodwill

Goodwill is known for our donation-resale model, which supports our mission to help people in need through the power of work. Each year, millions of people support Goodwill’s mission by cleaning out their closets and donating gently used clothing to our Goodwill stores and donation centers. But did you know that you can give much more than just clothes to Goodwill?

At Ohio Valley Goodwill, we also accept a variety of other household items, electronics, and even cars! Here are a few things we bet that you didn’t know you could donate to Ohio Valley Goodwill:

Flat-screen computer monitors and TVs

Have a computer or TV that you no longer use? Take it to Goodwill! We gladly accept working flat-screen computer monitors and flat-screen TVs. You’ll receive a receipt for your donation for tax purposes, and the proceeds from your donation will be returned to Goodwill to support our mission of putting people in the community to work.

Jewelry

Many people clean out their closets each year and donate their gently used clothing to Goodwill, but did you know that Goodwill also collects donations of jewelry and other accessories? While you’re cleaning your closet, take some time to declutter your jewelry box, too. Then, donate any unused or unwanted necklaces, bracelets, pins, watches, or other accessories to Goodwill. You can keep your jewelry organized and feel great knowing that your donation will help someone in need.

Books

Do you have unread books that are gathering dust on your bookshelves? Ohio Valley Goodwill is the perfect place to donate your hardcover books, and paperbacks and give them a new life! Your books will go on to help others who love reading just as much as you do. Plus, by donating your books to Goodwill, you’re helping Goodwill provide job training and employment services to people in your local community. Sort through your book stash today and make room on your bookshelves for some new summer reads!

Halloween costumes

At Ohio Valley Goodwill, we accept donations of Halloween costumes and decorations all year round, not just in October! Most families don’t reuse their children’s Halloween costumes from year-to-year. Instead of throwing away last year’s store-bought costume, donate it to Goodwill! There’s bound to be another family who will put your gently used Halloween costume to good use.

Cars

Trying to sell your used car yourself can be a hassle, but Ohio Valley Goodwill makes it simple and easy to donate your vehicle. If you have an older car that’s been sitting in your driveway or taking up space in your garage, consider donating it to Goodwill where it will be resold through our auto auction. The proceeds from our weekly auto auctions support Goodwill’s mission to help individuals with disabilities and disadvantages in your community find meaningful work. If your car doesn’t start, we’ll even come and tow it for free! You may also be eligible a tax advantage when you donate your car, truck, SUV, RV, boat, or motorcycle. Learn more here.

No matter what you choose to donate to Ohio Valley Goodwill, you can feel confident knowing that your contribution will go on to make a significant impact in the lives of people in your community! Thanks to your generous donations, Ohio Valley Goodwill is able to continue providing vocational training and job support services for individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment.
