Ohio Valley Goodwill Announces New President and CEO

The Board of Directors of Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries announces Mark Hiemstra will be the new President and Chief Executive Officer for the organization effective January 1st, 2023. Hiemstra will replace long-time President and CEO, Joseph S. Byrum. Hiemstra has served as Ohio Valley Goodwill’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) since 2020 and previously served in the same role for Goodwill Industries of Central Texas in Austin as well as Vice President of the organization for more than 10 years. His previous professional experience includes serving as Chief Operating Officer for Sandusky Bay Area Goodwill Industries in Sandusky, Ohio.

New Goodwill President, Mark Hiemstra

Mr. Hiemstra is a non-profit executive with more than thirty years of experience in working multiple service and business channels to achieve organizational goals. Hiemstra has worked under the direction of retiring President and CEO Joe Byrum for the past several years to familiarize him with the operations of Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries. The Board of Directors, under the leadership of Bill Courtney, President of the Board, unanimously selected Hiemstra for the role of new President and CEO and looks forward to his service in support of the organization’s 106 year old mission of service to the Greater Cincinnati community.

Bill Courtney, Chairman of Ohio Valley Goodwill’s Board of Director noted the following:

Established in 1916, Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries is one of the largest providers of Employment and Training services for people with disabilities, military veterans, individuals challenged with homelessness and other barriers to employment in Southwest Ohio. The organization operates 19 retail stores, 31 Attended Donation Centers and a number of business operations to generate revenue in support of its longtime mission of service to the community. Annually, the organization serves almost 3000 people and in 2021, assisted 920 to obtain jobs in the community. The overall economic impact of Goodwill is more than $63 million dollars a year when wages paid, wages earned by placed individuals, taxes paid and governmental assistance saved are calculated.
