Add Color to Your Wardrobe and Beat the Winter Blues

Do you have a case of the winter blues? During the winter months, when the weather is cold and gray, many people find themselves feeling more tired than usual. Luckily, there are a lot of things you can do to overcome the winter blahs, including changing up your wardrobe!

As it turns out, there’s a scientific link between colors and our emotions. Seeing certain colors produces hormones that reduce stress and make us feel happier. So, even when the weather is dark and gloomy, adding a pop of color to your wardrobe can help to lift your spirits.

Beat the winter blues by incorporating these fun, vibrant colors into your wardrobe:

Sunny yellow

A lack of sunlight in the winter months can put a damper on your mood. However, just seeing the color yellow can make you feel better on a cold, gray day! Research shows that yellow promotes energy, optimism, and happiness. If you don’t think you can pull off this bright hue, try a more subtle shade of yellow, like mustard.

Powerful red

Red evokes power, confidence, and success. There’s even scientific evidence that wearing the color red increases the chances of teams winning in sports! If you’re not ready to wear red all over, don’t worry. You can still incorporate red in your wardrobe with accessories like scarves or jewelry. You don’t have to choose the boldest cherry red, either. Warmer tones like burgundy will have the same effect!

Enchanting emerald

In color psychology, green symbolizes nature, growth, and health. This color is another easy addition to any wardrobe because it pairs well with most other colors from the color palette. In the winter months, look for darker greens like emerald and olive to pair with the black, white, or gray clothing you already have in your closet.

Calming blue

Blue is one of the best colors to wear in the winter because it has a calming, stress-reducing effect. It’s actually the most popular color in the world, maybe because it reminds us of peaceful blue skies and seas. For a subtle way to wear blue, try a darker navy or a light, powder blue. Or, make a statement with a brighter shade like cobalt or turquoise.
