Food Services Training

Our mission is to assist you in acquiring the necessary vocational skills needed to enter entry-level food service positions, depending on your experience and previous training. In addition, the training program can be added to a resume to reflect recent work experience. The training is designed using feedback from employers who assist in the development of a curriculum that reflects the skills needed to be successful in the current labor market. This curriculum can also be modified based on an individual’s specific interests and abilities. Other facts about our food service training program include:

  • Prior to being accepted in the training program, a one week evaluation is required. This allows the individual to evaluate the training program and to determine if the goal of food service is what he/she desires.
  • Training usually occurs at our Woodlawn facility where we operate a full service kitchen, or can be arranged at a private industry or business site.
  • Individuals are paid minimum wage for the work they perform while in training.
  • The length of the training program can vary depending on the individual’s particular training needs and skills. On average, food service training lasts twelve (12) weeks.
  • Individuals who participate in the training program have the option to receive basic computer skills training and or GED preparation at no extra cost.
  • In addition to the job skills training provided, soft skills training associated with employment such as, stamina, grooming and hygiene, attendance, punctuality, social skills, team work, problem solving, customer service and productivity are included as part of the curriculum.

Individuals are typically referred by Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission, the Ohio Bureau of Worker’s Compensation, the Department of Veterans Affairs, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Division and the VRP3/Pathways Projects.
