“Goodwill Program Participants Practice Community Volunteerism”

Goodwill’s CAC and CARE volunteers making a contribution to the Ronald McDonald House
As part of Ohio Valley Goodwill’s on-going commitment to supporting community integration opportunities for the individuals it serves through its Work Adjustment Training and CARE programs, eleven program participants made a special visit to the Ronald McDonald House in late March. The point of the visit was to deliver the thousands of pop can tabs that the advocates have been collecting for months, which are then used to generate funds for the Ronald McDonald House’s mission of helping critically ill children and their families.
“A key component of the Center for Advocacy, Recreation, and Education (CARE) program from the very beginning was to provide participants with many different opportunities to allow them to give back,” explained CARE supervisor Lois Kramer. “We find that our program participants get a great deal of satisfaction from knowing that their efforts are helping others,” added Kramer.
In addition to the CARE volunteers, members of Goodwill’s Consumer Advisory Committee (CAC) were part of the collection effort as well as involved in making the important donation to the Ronald McDonald House. “We believe very strongly in helping other people,” said Samantha Woolery, CAC Chairperson.
