Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries received an early holiday gift from its Service Guild at the organization's 90th Anniversary Luncheon on December 8, 2006. The Service Guild presented Goodwill President and CEO Joseph Byrum with a check for $10,000. to be used for programs and services to help men and women with disabilities. The award is presented to a local organization or rehabilitation facility that has maintained an outstanding record of service to people with disabilities during the year. Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries announces that it has been awarded a three year Level III National Industries for the Severely Handicapped (NISH) NPA (Non-Profit Agency) Custodial Certification. The certification is given in recognition of its achievements in quality, customer satisfaction, staff qualifications, experience and for continuously meeting or exceeding the 75% direct labor ratio. Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries recently announced that Patrick McFalls has joined the organization as its new Vice President for Industrial Services. With increased regional demand for skilled labor, Patrick's role will be to expand Contract Services' ability to meet the requirements of businesses to optimize the utilization of their existing skilled workforce by outsourcing non-value added content. The Northern Kentucky Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) of Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries plans a stand down event on Friday, October 20, 2006. The purpose of the event is to draw attention to the needs of homeless veterans and to offer a variety of services for these individuals. As part of the National Disability Mentoring Day celebration being held on October 18, 2006, Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries is sponsoring a fashion show for the anticipated 400 students involved in the yearly event. Activities for the day will be held at the Cintas Center on the Xavier University campus and will feature speakers, workshops on effective interviewing skills, college planning, and a career fair featuring approximately 30 employers. The Service Guild of Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries will be holding its annual Fall Mini-Fest at the Woodlawn Retail Store located at 10600 Springfield Pike in Woodlawn on Friday, October 6th and Saturday, October 7th, 2006. Help local people in our community find good jobs just by cleaning out your closet. From September 14 to 25, customers who donate clean, gently-used clothing and home textiles at the Elder-Beerman store in downtown Hamilton will receive coupons toward the purchase of new merchandise. One coupon is given per item donated, and all donations support local Goodwill Industries job training and career services to help people find good jobs. Friday, September 1st marked the launch of Ohio Valley Goodwill's newest partnership with the "Neediest Kids of All" organization. Working with Nancy Herron, guidance counselor at Batavia Local Schools, Goodwill's Beechmont store was the location for the first group of families to obtain needed school clothing. First District United States House of Representative Steve Chabot visited Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries on Monday July 31, 2006 to discuss issues related to US veterans. Since OVGI's inception of the Homeless Veterans Reiteration Program programs in the early 1990's, more than 3,400 veterans have been served, over 2,700 have been helped with housing needs, and 2,347 individuals have been placed into community jobs. Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual), in cooperation with Exceptional Parent Magazine and the Cincinnati Reds, sponsors Disability Awareness Night (DAN) at Great American Ballpark July 22nd. Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries announces that it was a proud recipient of three prestigious awards given at the 2006 Hamilton County Board of MR/DD awards dinner. Honored this year with the Thomas H. Kidd Award of Excellence was Goodwill's newly created CARE program (Center for Advocacy, Recreation and Education). The program is designed to provide recreational, social, and personal development opportunities for adults with disabilities. Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries has opened a new Attended Donation Center in Fairfield located at 4605 Dixie Highway in the Fairfield Crossings shopping center. The donation center is at the corner of Route 4 and Symmes Road and will be open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Sunday from 12 Noon to 5:00 pm.
