Ohio Valley Goodwill Receives National Industries for the
Severely Handicapped (NISH) Custodial Certification Award!
Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries announces that it has been awarded a three year Level III NISH NPA Custodial Certification in recognition of its achievements in quality, customer satisfaction, staff qualifications, experience and for continuously meeting or exceeding the 75% direct labor ratio. In addition to receiving the award, Ohio Valley Goodwill's Industrial Services division has been added to the GSA/PBS Preferred Vendors list. Beginning in 2007, NISH can only award custodial contracts to vendors with the appropriate Custodial Certification. A Level III certification indicates that the organization has the necessary staffing and systems to be able to perform the larger contracts that are awarded by government facilities.
Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries is involved in NISH janitorial projects in the Greater Cincinnati area including the John Weld Peck Federal building and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). "We are pleased that NISH has recognized our performance and has seen fit to award us this notice of achievement," said Joseph Byrum, Goodwill's president and CEO.
The recognition symbolizes a "job well-done." Outstanding overall performance in the JWOD program proves that persons with severe disabilities can be productive, contributing members of society.

In partnership with the Veterans Administration, Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries welcomed Northern Kentucky veterans to its 6th annual "Stand Down" event, held at the Bellevue Veterans Club on October 20, 2006. Featured speaker at the event was Donald Whitehead, former executive director of the National Coalition of the Homeless. During the daylong program, veterans had the opportunity to receive services including medical, dental, eye/vision services, legal, religious, chaplain, and social services. Also available were benefits and vocational counseling, AA/NA meetings, haircuts, and employment seeking services.
"We are so thankful to have the opportunity to reach out to our nation's heroes through an event like this each year," said Charlie Blythe, Special Projects Manager. Goodwill Partner in Legislative Outreach Event - Let Us Work!
On Sunday, October 22nd, Ohio Valley Goodwill in partnership with The Arc of Hamilton County and 16 other human service organizations, sponsored a legislative outreach event in support of Medicaid Buy-In.
Held at Mt. Airy Park from 1-3 pm, the theme of the event was "Let Us Work!" and focused on why legislators should vote for the passage of the bill. Over 100 people attended the informative and fun-filled day including self-advocates, agency representatives and legislators.
"Ohio would be the 35th state to approve the passage of the Medicaid Buy-In legislation," said Tom Eamoe, Executive Director, The Arc. "It would allow individuals to work, make a living wage and retain their Medicaid benefits- which often prevents individuals from disabilities from going to work," explained Eamoe.
Ohio Valley Goodwill is proud to have been a sponsor of this important community outreach event to benefit individuals with disabilities. After all, the Goodwill slogan for 2006 is "For 90 Years, we've been all about work!"

Goodwill Named 2005 Best of the City!
Cincinnati Magazine has recognized Goodwill's flagship store and donation center as a "Best of the City" thrift outlet. The magazine noted that a "2003 facelift and expansion makes it a breeze to drop off donations or maneuver through the mother lode of brand-name clothes, old-school furniture, and housewares. Plus, for each dollar you spend, Goodwill puts 85 cents into job training and job placement programs for people with disabilities."
Congratulations to Diana Shelton and all of the Woodlawn store team for doing such a great job!
Goodwill Named As Most Efficient Organization For Donors
On AOL's 2005 Charity Guide for donors, Goodwill was named as the most efficient charitable organization -- using fully 96% of its donations to help individuals served. As one of the largest providers of employment and training services for persons with disabilities, Goodwill has a long history of efficiently using its resources to help people to get jobs. Sales from its network of retail stores provides 60% of Goodwill's annual operating budget and in Greater Cincinnati, over 2000 individuals are served annually. Individuals helped by Goodwill include persons with cognitive, mental and physical disabilities as well as those experiencing homelessness and even our nation's veterans.
While Goodwill is filled with gratitude for the support of the Greater Cincinnati community over the past 90 years, there is always a need to help support its mission of putting people to work. In an effort to make it easy and convenient for its donors, Ohio Valley Goodwill has established an on-line donation feature. Just click below to help others in our community.
Thank you for your on-going support!
