CARE program goes green!

The Goodwill CARE (Center for Advocacy, Recreation and Education) program is working hard to lighten its global footprint. Program participants are recycling pop cans and saving the pop tabs. A tour of the Woodlawn headquarters and the dormitory areas was provided to the special guests by Goodwill’s management team. Following the tour, the pair had lunch with the Veteran Services staff team and were able to observe the Goodwill mission in action, interacting with the many individuals served by the organization. Lunch was followed by a visit to Goodwill’s Reading Road satellite location, as well as a stop at the Drop Inn Center and a discussion regarding the challenges of serving the many individuals in need.

“We were delighted to have the opportunity to welcome our distinguished guests to Ohio Valley Goodwill,” said Joe Byrum, President/CEO. “I think it was a very informative visit for them regarding our many services for Veterans struggling with homelessness.”

New West Side Satellite Coming Soon!

Ohio Valley Goodwill is working away on the renovations of its newest satellite location in Westwood. The former Walgreen’s building at 2990 Harrison Avenue is in the midst of a complete overhaul of both its internal and external structure. The newest addition to the organization’s network of services is slated to open in the early Spring of 2008.

The program is being designed to provide a variety of work training opportunities for individuals sponsored by the Hamilton County Board of MR/DD, who are West side residents. In addition, the site will offer work evaluation services, job placement and coaching support as well as delegated nursing and personal care assistance.

"We are delighted to be opening the new Westwood training satellite,” said Leslie McCurley, Senior Manager. “It’s wonderful to be able to respond to the many requests of families that we’ve received from the Westwood community."

Goodwill plans to host a series of Open House events to celebrate the new location and will begin offering tours as soon as renovations are closer to completion. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact Sharon Hannon, Marketing Specialist, at 771-4800, ext. 6364 for more information and a future tour.
