Ohio Valley Goodwill Hosts Café Conversation Thank You
In partnership with the Hamilton County Board of MR/DD and its Vision 2014 team, Ohio Valley Goodwill was the host location for a special "Thank You Café" on Monday, August 18th. Ohio Valley Goodwill Co-Sponsor of "Live for the Levy" Event!
Xavier University's Schiff Conference Center was the place to be on Thursday, July 31st... a sold-out crowd sat on the edge of their seats as Melody in Motion, Hands in Harmony, Encore, Britt Lincoln, and Team Cincinnati performed in support of the Hamilton County Board of MR/DD and its upcoming levy campaign. Ohio Valley Goodwill had 50 audience members in attendance including many of the individuals it serves.
Leslie McCurley, Goodwill Senior Manager, with family in tow, was delighted at the turn-out and excited about the performances. "It is always so exciting to see everyone come together in support of such a vital cause and to have fun in the process," said McCurley. Ohio Valley Goodwill's team was also pleased to root for Stephanie Mitchell, one of the evening's performers, who is supported in her community job by the organization's job coaching staff.
The highlight of the evening had to be the finale when all of the respective performers joined Team Cincinnati on stage and joined in a song which featured a solo by Sister Marianne Van Vurst, 2008 Levy Campaign Chair. "It was certainly a memorable evening and contributed significantly to the levy fund-raising effort," said Sharon Hannon, OVGI Marketing Specialist. "Ohio Valley Goodwill is proud to be a co-sponsor of such an important special event that benefits the individuals we mutually serve," added Hannon.

CARE program goes green!
The Goodwill CARE (Center for Advocacy, Recreation and Education) program is working hard to lighten its global footprint. Program participants are recycling pop cans and saving the pop tabs. Since early Spring, CARE participants have been gathering up cans and taking them to the Woodlawn Recycling Center located behind the Woodlawn Fire Station. CARE participants also take the pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House, where the aluminum tabs are recycled and the proceeds benefit children and their families.
The recycling effort is just one of the many examples of community service learning opportunities offered through Ohio Valley Goodwill's award-winning CARE program. Designed to provide recreational, social and personal development experiences for interested participants, the program is now in its third year of operation and serves more than 40 individuals. For more information about the CARE program, please contact Sharon Hannon, Marketing Specialist, at shannon@cincigoodwill.org.
