Goodwill Scholar Athletes of the Week Announced at STAR64 High School Rival Game!

wstr_colorSaturday, September 24th marked the second game of the 2016 STAR64 Saturday High School Rivals and the launch of the Goodwill High School Donation Challenge. The weekend’s featured game was Newport Central Catholic vs. Conner. As part of the Goodwill High School Donation Challenge, schools are asked to collect donations for the week prior to the game. In addition, before the featured game of the week, the school selects ” Goodwill Scholar Athletes of the Week” to be recognized. At Saturday’s exciting game, two more ” Goodwill Scholar Athletes of the Week” were announced: Mr. Bryce Wade and Mr. Ian Dew.

Bryce has a 4.5 GPA from Conner High School and is a member of the National Honor Society. Bryce is a defensive end for Conner’s football team and won the Cougar Academic award in 2015. Bryce is interested in pursuing a degree in Environmental Science in college.
Ian attends Newport Central Catholic High School and has a GPA of 3.92. Ian is a player for the Baseball District team and a regular community volunteer.

As ” Goodwill Scholar Athletes of the Week,” Bryce and Ian will now be in the consideration for the ” Goodwill Athletic Scholar of the Year.” The selection will be made at the end of the season and the lucky athlete will receive a $5000.00 college scholarship to the college of their choice. This is the second year that Ohio Valley Goodwill and STAR64 have worked together on the Goodwill High School Donation Drive and are excited about this year’s games and athletes.

During the week before the game, Newport Central Catholic High School and Conner High School and their students, families and teachers collected more than 1200 pounds of donations to benefit Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries and its 100 year old mission of putting people with disabilities and our nation’s veterans to work in our community.
