Goodwill Industries Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program Plans Stand Down Event – April 23, 2010

Cincinnati, OH · · April 12, 2010 · · The Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) of Ohio  Valley Goodwill Industries plans a ” Stand Down” event on Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Mercy Franciscan at  St. John at 1800 Logan Street in Cincinnati. This is the third year that Mercy Franciscan is hosting the event  at their facility.

The purpose of the event is to draw attention to the needs of homeless veterans and to offer a  variety of services for these individuals. Activities will take place from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The phrase ” stand down” comes from an old military term relating to a time that military personnel  can have their personal needs attended to. During the event veterans will have the opportunity to receive  assistance from over 20 service providers including: housing assistance, job services and medical services.  A hot lunch will be provided from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 pm. The ” stand down” offers a wonderful opportunity  for members of the media to observe programs that are offered for veterans.

In addition to Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries, other sponsors for the event include: Cincinnati

Veterans Administration, Mercy Franciscan ““ St. John, the Greater Cincinnati Homeless Coalition, Church of

the Redeemer, Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken, and Bruegger’s.

Goodwill Industries has been offering services to homeless and jobless veterans for many years. To  qualify for Goodwill’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program, an individual must be homeless and  jobless, yet be available for work.

Last year (2009), Ohio Valley Goodwill lndustries provided services to more than 600 veterans and  homeless individuals. For more information about the stand down event, contact Mick Fusco, Goodwill’s  Grants Manager at (513) 631-4500.
